Learn More About Self Storage Near Story City Iowa?

Self-storage is a space where individuals can rent and store their personal or business belongings. There are storage units, also referred to as storage spaces, for both residential and commercial use.
Most self-storage facilities accept all types of items: from clothing to furniture and everything in between (e.g., appliances, electronics). However, Ames West Side Storage has a policy of not accepting certain types of items, such as controlled substances, food items, and hazardous materials. It is important to note that our facility only provides outdoor space for storage spaces for RV’s, large boats, travel trailers, buses, food trucks, enclosed trailers.

Self-storage units rent by the month and come with a personal access code for our gate, which allows the tenant to enter and exit the unit. The rental agreement requires tenants to pay for any damages done by them or their guests during their stay, including misplacing items inside the unit (e.g., a sweater being thrown on top of other items).
Self-storage facilities have different sizes of units for rent: 5×5; 5×10; 10×10; and 10×20 (or larger). The unit's size will depend on the amount of space you need. For example, if you are living in an apartment that is too small for your couch, you might rent a 5×10 unit to store it.

There are benefits to renting self-storage units:

Storage space is month-to-month, which means you can cancel your rental agreement anytime. There are no long-term commitments; therefore, you do not have to worry about storing items that you do not need anymore (e.g., broken furniture). The storage unit only needs to match an individual's needs: for example, a 5×10 storage unit is enough to store a mattress set and a couch. When people move, they usually must pay movers to transport furniture from one city/state to another. If they have items stored in self-storage facilities, however, they do not need to worry about paying for these transportation costs.

    Moving

Storing possessions while moving to a new home, apartment, or office is common. It takes effort and time to move to a new place; storing possessions gives people the time they need to focus on their transition without having to worry about unpacking and organizing items that are not fragile (e.g., dishes).
Self-storage units provide extra space for people who live in apartments: tenants can store items, such as old furniture or recreational equipment, which they do not need in their homes. In this way, self-storage facilities reduce the necessity of buying new pieces of furniture.

    Life Transitions:

Whether it’s divorce, downsizing for retirement, or moving out of an apartment, individuals who are in life transitions will benefit from self-storage units.
With self-storage units, individuals can slowly pack up their items, which gives them time to adjust to their new life.

    Decluttering Your Home:

The best way to avoid moving to a larger home or office while also keeping your space clutter-free is to declutter. It is possible for an individual to rent self-storage units and use these spaces to store items that they do not need anymore (e.g., clothes). The items will still be there if the person needs them, but they are out of sight—and therefore out of mind because someone can access the unit only with the storage facility's passcode. By renting self-storage units, people can save money by avoiding long-term commitments (e.g., buying a house or business building for their office).

    Storing a Personal Vehicle:

Cars, motorcycles, boats, trailers, commercial vans, and trailers can all fit into a 10×20 storage unit. If someone is moving to a new location but needs their vehicle temporarily, they can store their vehicle in a self-storage unit until they move.

    Home Remodeling:

Remodeling a home or office can take several weeks or months and may require you to move furniture and appliances out of the way. Ames West Side Storage is a great facility to store your belongings during the remodeling process. If you do not want to rent storage units for each item (e.g., couch, chest of drawers), then it is wise to rent one 10×20 unit that will hold several pieces of furniture and appliances.

College Storage - Summer Semester - Studying Abroad:

Freeing up space in a dorm room, heading home over the summer, or studying abroad for a semester are all examples of life transitions that can benefit from self-storage units. Because students do not always need to access their belongings, they should consider renting long-term storage units. You can also save money by purchasing furniture or appliances in the summer and storing them over the summer instead of buying new ones right before school begins.

Our storage facility is located just 1.5 miles from the campus of Iowa State University and your unit is accessible 24/7.

    Small Business Storage:

Commercial storage isn’t just storage units for businesses. At Ames West Side Storage, we understand the needs of small businesses and we know that you need more than just a place to store your items. Businesses in various industries rent self-storage units that range from 10×10 to 10×30 at our facility. We have that perfect unit to properly store valuable equipment, merchandise, or other valuable items. Commercial storage units are great for businesses moving from one location to another since they can remain there until the owner finds a permanent place for them.

I had the privilege of meeting the owner Steve. Who met with my brother and I not even 20 minutes after my first call with him to look at storage units. He gave a detailed and thorough explanation about the units, how to get in and how to use the system. I feel really comfortable renting from Steve and I look forward to working with him in the future - Stivers Kids

My wife and I have rented from Steve and Ames West Side Storage beginning in the summer of 2021. The storage facility is clean, well-kept and the customer service is exceptional. Steve (the owner) truly goes out of his way for his renters. It's also very reasonably priced. I couldn't recommend this facility more.

About Story City Iowa

Story City is a city in Story County, Iowa, United States. Story City is located within the Ames, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area which envelops all of Story County and which, when held in conjunction with the Boone, Iowa Micropolitan Statistical Area, complements the larger Ames-Boone, Iowa Combined Statistical Area. The population was 3,352 in the 2020 census, a slight increase from 3,228 in 2000.[2]

Story City was known as Fairview throughout much of its early history. The name changed in 1881 when the town established a post office and discovered that Fairview was taken elsewhere. Story City was then renamed after Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story. The boundaries of "Old Fairview" are outlined by signs during Scandinavian Days and is approximately in the northeast corner of current Story City with the southern boundary being Broad Street.

Story City, Iowa was laid out to include Fairview in 1878 and officially incorporated in 1881. The railroad arrived in 1878 and connected the city to Ames by the narrow-gauge Des Moines & Minnesota and to Des Moines via the Chicago and North Western Railroad in Ames.

The City has deep historic and cultural ties to the Scandinavian countries of northern Europe of Denmark, Sweden, and predominantly Norway. A large contingent of the City's current population is descended from major immigration of people from Nordic countries in the 1840s through 1860s. This is evident in a large number of Lutheran churches in the community, which historically had sermons in different languages (Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian) respective of the makeup of their congregations.
